“womyn at work” is a collaborative non-binary art intervention from South Asia started in the year 2020. They introduce a unique participatory process of observing artistic expressions by formulating four interactive segments that stimulates the essence of the work by womyn artists from around the globe specially in the context of the forth wave-feminism/non binary cross cultural interest. womyn at work is a collaborative curatorial expansion by Tracing A City (India), AIB-Art Initiative Bangladesh (Dhaka, Bangladesh), LIVE HIVE (Goa, India), and PhotoPeer Arts & Media Resource Foundation (Kolkata, India).
Background:
From the beginning of this enforced new timeline (specifically during the new global pandemic of the Covid-19 lockdown situation), we have noticed, we are slowly moving towards a new social atmosphere where the understanding of collective fearless acceptance is comparatively different than the old usual. Life will intensively be structured, manipulated by larger consumeristic needs. In a way, soon It will be an interesting junction like a collective hardship for all culture clusters in the mode of accepting the practicality of ‘self-distancing’ effects. From that curious void, our curatorial interest emerges primarily within the in-house level specially to explore open-source communication without even pushing/violating the sensitivity of the current post-truth situation.
This entire exchange is planned in a participatory web series format where we want to incorporate the art of struggle and culture of resistance together to the larger commune by sharing a combination of text, audio-visual experiential dialogue, monologue, and crosswords. We have started this observational research from March'20 onwards regarding the nature of undefined personal spaces in time of Covid-19 and also tried to map a fluid connection between different interpersonal events in the context of socio-cultural expectations and utopian gender binaries. As a curatorial body, we only tried to stretch our intellectual barriers so that we are able to prepare a new bridge with plural cross-cultural expressions. Following a trans-disciplinary curatorial model-we introduced a fearless common space for multi-discipline as long as that is participatory and reachable.
Vision:
‘womyn at work’ is a durational action research model conceptualized as a trans-disciplinary interactive format - where we will explore the non-narrative visual agents with a subversive curatorial interest. Where we will provide the freedom to celebrate the process more than the production of creative action. It is a multiple-month long episodic exchange within the neo-web-series model. Every episode will be composed of minimum 3 different practitioners in collaboration with our in-house moderators. There will be a mundane non-linear connection between the episodes, if there is any direct resemblance that will be absolutely coincidental and reflection of new normal hyper-connection.
Key Areas:
Social Binaries, Cultural Appropriation, Gender Hegemony, Performative Dialogue, Personal Politics.
