“Home & Belongings” | Curatorial Note
For a long time, we have been wanting to inquire and explore the idea of where our source is. As to where the creative impulse comes from. From a very individualistic journey, we have been shaping and remodeling the idea of what bodies are, what minds are, and where do we actually belong, especially in socio-political contexts of womynhood too, of inhabiting the spaces known as South Asia. The quest began with where our source of HOME is, making us realise that the first home possibly was the mother's womb. Deeper exploration and deeper and deeper deconstructionism at the micro level revealed that the source is actually the first cell....the first stem cell of life. This revelation and metaphysics is the focal point of the collaborative efforts of all of us together today. The vibration of the first cell is the source home and the final home. That is why we wanted to bring together the art practitioners who work with vibration. The spoken word is a vibration of sound and truth. The dance movement is a vibration of the cells. The need for being able to live the ever changing fluid identity on an hour on hour basis is a vibration of fluid existence. When we saw and heard and absorbed the work of all the artists, Kannakee, Amy and David, over a very long period of time, almost a year, we saw a common ground and a binding ideal between all. All of them are seekers of Belonging, carving out a niche for themselves. What is so beautiful about all of them is that they are representative of ideals and of solidarity and are slowly creating safe spaces for humyns to live in, and shaping a world which is non judgmental, just and peaceful.
